Why delve deep into Digital Marketing?
I usually prefer staying away from business terminologies and their associated facets. But today, I made an exception to share my views about digital marketing, also known as internet marketing or online marketing in other parts of the globe.
I recall how, in India, those brand-power-related advertisements used to be aired on television in the mid-1990s and prevailed until circa 2000. These ads ranged from a high-end vacuum cleaner to a food processor appliance. On one hand, everything about the commodities advertised appeared flawless: the way those presenters interviewed people, their dressing sense, the hilarious customer opinions (I now laugh whenever I see those videos), and, on the other hand, to a common man, it appeared as if it was only targeted for high-income groups in society, which made you pity yourself. To me, that was the birth of digital marketing, at least in India.
The times changed, and so did the marketing tactics. With information technology (IT) opening more high-paying job opportunities, the so-called ordinary man turned out to be extra ordinary. His or her needs were no longer regular, albeit they were for luxury and comfort. But for the manufacturer, it was a mega business and marketing opportunity. In 2016, the startup culture kicked in, and today we have reputed brands like Paytm, Oyo, Ola, Zomato, Swiggy, and the list goes on.
So what keeps the digital marketing flame alive?
To promote any business or brand, we often focus on marketing methods and the type of audience that is eager to feel your brand to the core. Well, this is one aspect, while the dark side is that sometimes internet marketing firms spend heavily on promotions without doing the homework, and they end up with a hole in their pocket. One shouldn’t forget that whatever a client invests to promote his or her business, they expect double or even higher returns on investment (ROI).
My beliefs:
- No business yields results overnight. You must give time and allow good digital marketing tools in the long run tp deliver happy results.
- Excel spreadsheets are confusing, and so are the clients, who, in most cases, never reply properly to the digital marketing consultants and expect the staff to do magic overnight.
- I make my own notes and paraphrase (this is what I do when I interact with my clients) to give a better understanding of the subject discussed.
- Posh office spaces and a business suit? Oh I forgot you are my client.
- Likes, views, shares, and subscriptions can never be under your control. So all you have to do is create the best digital marketing strategy and leave the rest to the almighty. You cannot force people to like.
I would love to highlight some digital marketing tools that marketing companies or internet marketing consultants make use of. This is just a generalised version, and I am not aware of the insider practices of what actually goes into all these digital marketing strategies. Here we go:
- Pay-per click (PPC) marketing, which primarily works on your budget and audience type and the results are usually promising. Google ads, Bing ads and Facebook ads come into the picture here. Mind you, this a paid form of marketing and is not organic.
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO) : The most popular form of internet marketing where your brand is optimized and ranking on the Search Engine Results Page (SERP’s) is enhanced for better business visibility.
3. Social Media Marketing (SMM) : hmm! yes, we all know this one. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter and what not on earth is used to ignite your brand and spread it fumes far across just at the click of a button. Make it viral or bacterial — anything that suits you.
4. Landing Page Optimization : I wouldn’t term it LPO. A landing page optimization is aimed specifically to redirect customers to your core product and ? what? hmm, okay! conversion dude. Yippy a sale is here.
Kan-klooshan
No business is big or small. It’s your passion that drives you towards its prosperity and the future. For the best outcome, do approach a good digital marketing consultant and share your ideas with them patiently. Don’t be cringy and annoying. All the best.
